Delhi’s unemployment rate higher than national average, finds govt. report
The unemployment rate (UR) in Delhi was higher than the national average for 2021-22, according to a Delhi government report… The report, ‘Women & Men in Delhi-2023’, showed that the national capital’s UR was 5.1% for men and 6% for women, higher than the national average of 4.4% for men and 3.3% for women. It stated that the city’s population is likely to reach 2.65 crore by 2036 while noting an improvement in its sex ratio, which remains below the national average.
Kerala elderly rely on MGNREGS, younger workers opt for higher paying labour: data
High daily wages for younger unskilled workers in Kerala has meant the state has the highest percentage of elderly workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). According to official data, 28.47 per cent of those employed under the scheme this fiscal year in Kerala are in the age group of 61-80 years, while only 1.41 per cent are in the 18-30 age group. More than 85 per cent of MGNREGS workers in the state are above 40.

New Delhi: Indian economy, dubbed the fastest growing major economy in the world, is faced with the single most important pressure point of job creation, says former RBI Governor Raghuram G Ranjan as he makes a strong case for improvement of human capital through skill development. "Jobs is the single most important pressure point... If we had many more private sector jobs showing up, would there be so much pressure on reservations? Perhaps there'll be less so to some extent," he said, regretting that states are trying to reserve jobs for their residents, which is a worrisome trend.
Govt gives appointment letters to nurses, medical teachers
In a testimony to transparency in recruitment process, a massive function was organised in which appointment letters were given to the new appointees in the Health Department, including assistant professors. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the function in Lucknow while public representatives distributed the appointment letters in districts. On Tuesday, appointment letters were given to 278 assistant professors, 2,142 staff nurses and 48 AYUSH teachers.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday (December 13) asked Attorney General for India R Venkataramani about the status of promotion of Women Navy Officers who have been granted permanent commission pursuant to the 2020 decision in Union of India v. Lt Cdr Annie Nagaraja and others. The CJI asked, “After our judgement, how many women have been promoted Mr AG? How many women have been promoted in the navy? It can't be that no single woman was competent.” The AG replied that it may be just one promotion so far, while adding that he will revert after taking specific instructions.
